Team Fastrax and

Offer Wounded Veterans
Tandem Skydive
Opportunity

"Blue Skies for the Good Guys and Gals" Honors our Nation's Heroes

Team Fastrax Professional Skydiving Team and Start Skydiving are proud to announce their new program, "Blue Skies for the Good Guys and Gals," to say THANK YOU to the men and women who serve our country.   The program will provide a tandem parachute opportunity for those Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines and Coast Guard (active duty, reserve or guard) who have been wounded in combat and received a Purple Heart.  Team Fastrax has partnered with the Wounded Warrior Foundation and The Thank You Foundation to reach out to Veterans around the country.

"These are our nation's finest and brightest and we have an obligation to do whatever we can to lift their spirits and show them how much we care, said John Hart, founder of Team Fastrax and owner of Start Skydiving.  "As a Gulf War veteran and 20 year Army service member, I am honored to sponsor an event that will have a special impact on these men and women."

The program will kick off at Start Skydiving in Lebanon, Ohio on Memorial Day Weekend as part of the Thank You Foundation Boogie.  Selection.com, the nation's premier background screening service, is spearheading the corporate charge to raise the funds to make these skydives happen.  For more information on how to help and participate you can contact The Thank You Foundation at : 1-877-280-8893

What's Up This Week

Week ending 14 June 2008
We are now operating on summer hours: Monday, Wednesday and Thursday 12:00 pm until sunset, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 8:00 am until sunset.
It's time to learn CReW at Start Skydiving!  CReW Camp is this weekend. Registration begins at 8:00 on Saturday; the camp begins at 9:00 sharp.
This Friday, June 13th we will be hosting a neighborhood meet-n-greet at 7:00 pm.  We ask that anyone who can come out to the DZ and meet our neighbors to do so.  We want the neighbors surrounding the DZ to meet the quality people who jump at Start Skydiving.  As with any business, maintaining great relationships is critical to our success.
We are beginning to see a lot of new faces at Start Skydiving, from DZ's across Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky.  Please note that we are a USPA Drop Zone and therefore require that all jumpers have an active USPA membership.  If you are a new or unlicensed jumper, we can help you attain your A License by administering the required test; we also have world-class coaching if you need to improve the skills necessary for licensure.  If you don't want to get licensed, but just want to join the USPA in order to jump at Start Skydiving, we have applications available and can fax them in for you, to immediately activate your membership.
We have no political affiliations; we welcome everyone to Start Skydiving, where the skydiver comes first.
We have plenty of packers on the mat so there will be no more delays for fun jumpers looking for a packer.
Safety First!

Things you need to know
.

A PRO Rating is earned, not issued, at Start Skydiving!

Maybe you've seen Fastrax Team members jumping one of those awe-inspiring huge American flags.  Or maybe you've heard some of the long-time jumpers telling their hilarious stories about dressing up in crazy costumes, lighting themselves up with flares, and jumping into stadiums.  Or maybe you've just watched someone jump into an event in front of a wildly cheering crowd and thought, "Hey, I wanna do that!  I'm gonna get my PRO rating!"
Well, in order to earn your PRO rating, you must be a current, D-licensed USPA member, with at least 500 jumps on a ram-air canopy.  You must also make a series of ten jumps into a circle ten meters in diameter (landing within five meters of the center point) using the same model and size canopy.  In order for those jumps to be valid, the following conditions must be met:

     1) The applicant must pre-declare each jump.
     2) Once the applicant has started the series, he or she may
make non-declared jumps; however, non-declared jumps
may not be counted toward the accuracy requirements for
         the rating.
      3) All of the ten pre-declared jumps in the series must be
         successful for any in the series to count toward the rating;
and in the event of an unsuccessful jump, the applicant
         must start a new series.
     4) On each declared jump, the applicant must make the first
contact and stop within the ten-meter circle and make all
         landings standing up.
     5) All declared jumps must witnessed by either an S&TA,
Instructor Examiner, or USPA Regional or National Director.
     6) The applicant must obtain signatures of the eligible verifying
official for each of the ten jumps.

Additionally you must score at least 75% on the PRO Rating exam, and then forward the completed application form to his or her USPA Regional Director for his signature.  Along with the application, you must include:
     1) A 1" x 1" full face photo of the applicant
     2) The completed PRO Rating exam
     3) The rating fee
     4)  A PRO Rating Proficiency card signed off by an I/E, S&TA,
or PRO Rating holder indicating that you have
received training in the following areas:
              a) Ground crew - and served as a ground crew member
on at least one Level 1 or Level 2 demo jump
              b) Flag rigging - and made at least one jump with a flag
              c) Smoke rigging - and made at least one jump with
                  smoke
              d) NOTAM filing and certificates of authorization
              e) Crowd control
              f) Post-jump procedures
Except for the minimum 500 ram-air jump requirement, all training listed must be made within the previous 12 months of the application.
The following conditions apply to all issued PRO Ratings:
     1) The smallest canopy used during qualification will be the
smallest size canopy to be used for minimum landing area
(Level 2) jumps, and the canopy size will be noted on the
         PRO Rating card.
     2) The USPA will issue an annual PRO Rating with an
expiration date that will coincide with the applicant's
membership expiration date. The rating must be renewed
annually in order to remain current.
     3)  If a PRO Rating holder's competence is questioned by a
FAA or USPA official (including S&TAs), the PRO Rating
holder may be required to reaffirm his or her proficiency.
     4) To requalify on a smaller canopy:
             a) The rating holder must make three successive, pre-
declared jumps, making the first contact and stopping
within a circle ten meters in diameter with that canopy.
     5)  All landings must be made standing up and be verified by
an S&TA, I/E, USPA Judge, or a Regional or National
         Director.

DZ Happenings

Here is the scoop!
It is time to put your big way plans together and let's set some DZ and Ohio records! Check out the Start Skydiving Events Calendar and mark your schedules accordingly.
Big accomplishments this past weekend:
Katie & Stephan Groschwitz participated in a 10-way to celebrate both of them hitting the 100-jump mark.  To continue the mutual celebration, in true skydiving tradition, they were both  successfully pied shortly thereafter.  (Please note that there is no statute of limitations on pieing.  If you've celebrated a landmark jump recently and not been pied, don't think you've gotten away scot-free.  The piers lurk...)
Air Rage Skydiving Services will be conducting a Tandem, AFFI and Coach certification course this month.
And always remember, If you're in the market for new gear, make sure you check out our sponsors on the left side of this newsletter.  All the manufacturers we support are top-of-the-line.  Ask manifest if you are in need of something;  Kip or John will sit down with you and explain the benefits of having the right equipment.

Mid-East Skydiving League News

Greetings Four-Way Junkies,

The next several articles will be dedicated to mental training.  It is one of the most overlooked topics, yet the important part of formation skydiving.  Please contact me with any and all questions you may have at This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it
Areas of Focus for Mental imagery and visualization:
All of the areas below are areas where you can use mental imaging.
         I.      Creeper/Drill Training Sessions
        II.      Tunnel Training Sessions
       III.      Jump Training Sessions
      IV.      Competition System

The Team Fastrax System:
We will only make small changes to our system, and those changes will only happen if it is determined to make a big difference. Otherwise the "Fastrax System" becomes a mandatory ritual that is second nature like breathing. It automatically brings the team to the optimal "Zone".

I.      Creeper/Drill Training Sessions

1.       Stretching Yoga Exercises, 15-20 minutes.
          i.      Mostly sun salutation exercises with focus on flexibility and breathing
2.       Centering, 5-10 minutes.
          i.      Seating meditation with emphasis on breathing, focus and awareness. Repeat and think positive thoughts "I'm a champion".
3.       Creeper Drills 60-90 minutes.
          i.      Determine formation draw.
ii.      Circle as a team and play the movie, practice focused breathing, smile and walk through the dive until everyone is comfortable.
iii.      Next lie down on the creepers and repeat the process.
4.       Take a break (1-3 minutes) and allow yourself to relax and recharge for the next draw.
5.       Team Communication, 5-15 minutes.
          i.      Open conversations for everyone, pass the rock, focus on the positive, but don't be afraid to bring up areas of improvement and concern.  It is important to communicate honestly.  Once the session is over you must move on, even if something was said that upset you.
6.       Business Discussion, 5-15 minutes.
          i.      Focus on team operational and administration issues.

II.      Tunnel Training Sessions
a.       Repeat above.

III.      Jump Training Sessions
a.       Repeat above.

IV.      Competition System
It is important to develop a competition routine that works for your team.  Team Fastrax uses the following routine which encompasses a great deal of mental drills.
1.      Puzzle
           i.      Look at all possibilities to engineer the dive.
2.     Angles

3.     Exit
4.     Hill
5.     Block technique
6.     Randoms
7.     Pauses
           i.      No grip pauses while promoting fast communication and keys.
8.     Sprints
           i.      Sky dive rhythm.  Identify and practice areas of sprints and touch-n-go keys for random and blocks.
9.     At Speed
10.     Speed CD
           i.      Normal learning speed
          ii.      Extreme speed
         iii.      Competition speed
