Experienced Jumpers
Start Skydiving Ohio offers a friendly hometown drop zone atmosphere and welcomes first time to experienced skydivers. Our Drop Zone owns three turbine aircraft; two Caravans and a Super King Air that climbs to 13,000 feet in nine minutes to suit all of your training needs, three turbines, one great DZ. Let′s not forget our four seat R-44 helicopter, Hot Air Balloon and fast 206 for hop-n-pops. We accept cash, traveler's checks and major credit cards. All business is done at manifest. We do not charge a fee for credit card usage at Start Skydiving.
What are the jumping requirements? Start Skydiving is a Group member of USPA. Please be prepared to show current USPA membership, proof of your license status and an in-date packing card when you purchase lift tickets. a signed log book may be necessary to prove currency.
How does Manifest work? You can place funds on your account with manifest. We do not carry credit at Start Skydiving. Manifest for loads only when you are ready to jump. Missed loads will not be refunded! Please be ready at the loading area when you hear your five-minute call.
What are the requirements for take off? RIG MUST BE ON - leg straps and chest straps correctly threaded prior to boarding. Seat belts must be worn on the plane until 1,000 ft AGL - no exception. If you choose not to wear your helmet, you must secure it to your chest strap or seat belt.
What about spotting? The pilot spots the plane and generally no corrections are needed. Open the door on the red light and verify the spot is correct. You must have pilot approval to open our aircraft door without a red light. when the solid green light goes on you can exit the plane. All groups continue to exit until the green light is off. Stay in the airplane for another jump run.
What are the exit orders? Bellyflyers - largest to small groups, Freeflyers - largest to small groups, Students, Tandems, Wingsuit flyers and CRW. Special note: Skysurfers will exit 2nd or 3rd out on the first pass to ensure that they are directly over the DZ.
Exit Separation: With reported upper winds of 0-10 knots, please allow between 5-7 seconds between exits (take into account the time it takes to climb out of the aircraft.) For winds of 15 knots or higher, please use the following formula: Take the upper wind speed and devide it by half, this will give you the recommended amount of time between exits!
Upper winds:
15 knots - 7 seconds between exit groups
30 knots - 15 seconds between exit groups
40 knots - 20 seconds between exit groups
What are the landing rules? Check out the aerial map of the landing areas below or at manifest. There are two primary landing areas and a dozen large outs. DO NOT cross the runway below 750 feet.
What is the landing pattern? We use a left hand pattern at Start Skydiving in all landing areas at all times. THERE IS NEVER AN EXCEPTION TO THIS RULE.
TANDEM & D LICENSE LANDING AREA - are located directly in front and to the right of our hanger. You must have a D license if you are a staff member to land in this area. First person down sets the pattern so follow the windsock if you are first to land. No more than a 540 degree turn on approach is allowed in this area. Tandems have the right of way so watch for traffic. Remember that we always use a left hand pattern at Start Skydiving.
B & C LICENSE LANDING AREA - is located northeast of the Tandem & D License Landing Area. You are also permitted to land between the runway and taxiway as well as in the Student & A License Landing Area. Remember that we always use a left hand pattern at Start Skydiving.
STUDENT & A LICENSE LANDING AREA - is located on the west side of the runway. Use the windsock located in the middle of the landing area end of for directional control. The first person down sets the pattern. Students have the right of way in this area. In light/no winds, land toward the southwest. Remember that we always us a left hand pattern at Start Skydiving.
